Recco
If Recco were the kingdom of gastronomy, the
"Focaccia col formaggio" would the queen and the "Trofiette al pesto" the
princess.
But Recco is also famous for the true festival of the fireworks known as
the "Sagra del fuoco" held the 8th of September, Santa Margherita Ligure is
famous for its prawn, for its boutiques and for its small restaurants and
cafès in fashion, for its Winter theater performances and for its
beautifull mansion, as Villa Durazzo.
A brief stay and you will be able to feel at home and to call this little
town as the inhabitants do: simply "Santa".
One more jump: and you will reach Rapallo, with its old castle surronded by
the sea that once had to defend the town from pirate invasion and where
nowadays original art exibitions are held.
Early in Jyuly the castle bursts into flames under a ring of fireworks: it
is the highest point of the festivity in honour of the Holy Virgin ogf
Montallegro, whose shrine has been built on a hill bearing the same name amd
that can be reached by the only funicolar in Ligury.
The shrine's walls still preserve many precious "ex-voto".
From Rapallo, where once a year the best authoress is awarded a prize and
which houses the only italian museum dedicated to the lacework, very little is
needed to ttravel back in the time of the Iron Age.
How?
Going to Zoagli in search of the rests of one of the eight prehistoric
fortifications called "castellari" brought up to light in Ligury.
Surely you will have enough time to discover the reality of the looms from
which precious silk cloth and velvet are born.
If you want to stay at middle-point between past and present, you must
walk among the foot path that follows the cliffs straight down the sea.
Let you ravish by a sunset!
Last advice.
After getting acquainted with a sightseeing of the coast, its beaches, its
sea and its villages, don't neglet the rugged but nevertheless charming land
lying behind them.
